A web app for machinists and fitters. It identifies bearings, threads, oil seals, circlips and O-rings from what you measure, and draws parts you can export as drawings and CAD files.
Can it export DXF, STEP or STL?
Yes. Benchsmith exports a dimensioned drawing PDF, DXF, a 1:1 template PDF, STL, OBJ and STEP.
Does it make proper engineering drawings?
Yes: an A3 sheet with dimensioned views, sections, detail views, an isometric view, a title block (ISO 2768-m) and a process sheet, in first or third angle.
Which threads does it know?
ISO metric coarse, ISO metric fine, UNC, UNF, BSP parallel (G), BSPT taper (R / Rc), NPT, BSW, Trapezoidal (Tr) and Acme.
How much is it?
Free during the open beta. After that the Free plan stays free (lookups, designing, drawings and templates unlimited, 3 file exports a month), Hobbyist is $4.99 a month and Pro $11.99 a month. See the pricing page.
Is there a phone app?
Benchsmith runs in the browser, so it works on any phone without the app stores. Open benchsmith.app and add it to your home screen; it then opens like an app and works offline.
Who is it for?
Machinists, fitters and turners, maintenance and repair workshops, and anyone who measures a worn part and needs to replace or remake it.
Do I need an account?
No for lookups, designing parts, drawings and templates. A free account is needed for counted exports (DXF, STL, OBJ, STEP) and to keep your parts on more than one device.
Is it related to Benchsmith furniture?
No. Benchsmith the app has nothing to do with any furniture or bench maker of the same name.
