Short version: Benchsmith collects nothing about you. There are no accounts, no tracking and no ads. Your parts, lists and settings stay on your own phone or computer.
What we collect
Nothing. You don't sign in, and we don't run analytics, tracking pixels, advertising or tracking cookies. We don't sell or share personal information, because we don't have any.
What stays on your device
To work offline and remember your work, Benchsmith saves these in your browser's storage on your device only:
- parts you design, and your parts lists;
- settings such as units, glove mode and your province;
- photos you trace in Photo mode, while you work on them;
- a copy of the app itself, so it opens with no signal.
We can't see any of it. To delete it, clear this site's data in your browser settings, or uninstall the app. Doing that deletes your saved parts too, so export anything you want to keep first.
Other services the app talks to
- Hosting: the site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, it handles your IP address to deliver pages and stop attacks.
- Fonts: the app's fonts load from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when they load.
- Links you tap: "Find shops near me" and "Find a supplier near me" open a Google Maps search for suppliers near you. Once you leave Benchsmith, Google's own privacy policy applies. Sending a parts list by WhatsApp opens WhatsApp, where WhatsApp's policy applies.
Feedback emails
If you tap Send feedback, your email app opens a message to us with the app version and your device and browser type filled in. You can see and edit all of it before you send. If you send it, we get your email address and what you wrote. We use that only to read it and reply, and we delete it when asked.
South Africa (POPIA)
Benchsmith is made in South Africa and follows the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). Right now the only personal information we ever receive is a feedback email you choose to send. You can ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. If you're unhappy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za.
This section is a placeholder. It doesn't apply yet, because Benchsmith has no accounts today. Before sign-in goes live, fill it in and update "Last updated":
- What an account stores (email, name, saved parts, parts lists), and where (provider, country or region).
- How sign-in works (email link, Google and so on), and which company handles it.
- Payments for Pro: which processor, and what it stores (we never see card numbers).
- Supplier lead counts: what is counted per tap, and whether it is linked to a user.
- "Ask Claude" and photo reading: what is sent to the AI service, and whether it's kept.
- How long data is kept, how to delete an account, and how to export your data.
- The Information Officer's name and contact details (POPIA).
- Cookies used for sign-in, if any.
