Terms of use
Last updated 7 October 2026
Short version: Benchsmith helps you measure, identify and draw parts. Check every size before you cut metal: the app can be wrong, and the part is your responsibility. Paid plans are sold by Polar, our payment partner. You can cancel any time, and you can have your first payment back within 14 days.
Who we are
Benchsmith (benchsmith.app) is run by Sherwin Kyle Jack, trading as Benchsmith, South Africa. Contact: [email protected]. By using the app you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Check before you cut
Benchsmith gives you drawings, 3D models, exports and data from standard tables (threads, fits, bearings, seals, circlips, O-rings). We work hard to get them right, but we can't promise they are free of mistakes, and they are no substitute for your own checks and trade judgement.
- Check sizes, tolerances and fits against the real parts and the current standard before you make anything.
- Where the app says a value is its own default or that it isn't sure, treat it as a starting point, not a specification.
- Benchsmith is not designed for safety-critical parts (lifting, pressure, brakes, aircraft, medical and the like). Those need a qualified engineer's sign-off.
Your parts and files
Parts you design, and the drawings and files you export, are yours to use however you like, including for paid work. The app itself (its code, design and the example parts) belongs to Benchsmith. Please don't copy the app, resell it, or try to break into accounts or the service.
Accounts
Signing in is optional. If you make an account, keep your sign-in details to yourself; you're responsible for what happens on your account. You can delete it at any time from Parts → Delete account. We may close an account that is used to abuse the service, and we'll tell you why.
Plans and payments
Benchsmith is free to use. Paid plans add more (for example more exports and STEP files); what each plan includes is shown in the app before you pay.
- Who sells it. Paid plans are sold by Polar (polar.sh), our Merchant of Record. Polar takes the payment, charges any VAT or sales tax, and sends your receipts. Its terms and privacy policy apply to the payment. We never see your card details.
- Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay. Your bank may add a currency conversion fee.
- Renewal. Plans renew automatically every month or every year, whichever you picked, until you cancel.
- Cancelling. In the app: Parts → Manage plan → cancel. You keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for; after that your account goes back to Free. Your saved parts are kept.
- Price changes are announced at least 30 days ahead and apply from your next renewal.
- Free offers and discount codes are for the people they were given to, and end on the date or number of uses stated with them.
Refunds
- First payment: if Benchsmith isn't for you, ask within 14 days of your first payment and you get it back in full. No reasons needed.
- Renewals: we don't refund part of a period you've started, but cancelling stops the next payment.
- If something we sold you doesn't work and we can't fix it, we'll refund the period it didn't work for.
- How: email [email protected] with the email address you paid with. Refunds go back to the card you paid with, through Polar, usually within 5 to 10 working days.
Nothing here takes away rights you have under the law where you live, including the Consumer Protection Act and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act in South Africa.
Links to shops and suppliers
Some screens link to shops, suppliers, Google Maps or WhatsApp. Those are other businesses with their own terms. Suppliers marked as featured pay to be listed; we don't sell their products or vouch for them. If we ever earn a commission from a shop link, the link will say so.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep Benchsmith running and to improve it, but we can't promise it will always be available or that every feature will stay the same. Most of the app works offline. If we take away something a paid plan includes, we'll tell you first and refund the unused part of your plan if you ask.
Liability
As far as the law allows, Benchsmith is provided as it is, and we aren't liable for indirect loss, such as lost profit, scrapped material or machine time, from using the app or relying on its data. If we are liable to you for anything, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. This doesn't limit liability that can't be limited by law.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. If we have a dispute, we'll first try to sort it out by email.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version appears on this page with a new date. If a change matters for a paid plan, we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
